The Indianapolis Colts have been dealt an injury blow in the second week of pre-season training camp.

NFL teams have been practicing with pads for the first time this off-season. It has meant the first day for several months that many players have been involved in full practice in preparation for the 2023 regular season.

ESPN reported that Colts running back Zack Moss sustained a serious injury during practice. The 25-year-old is believed to have suffered a broken arm and faces a spell on the sidelines.

Moss took a hit and immediately went down while clutching his right arm. It has been claimed that he will now face a period of six-to-eight weeks on the sidelines in recovery.

The injury to Moss arguably could not come at a worse time for the Colts. He was traded to the AFC South team from the Buffalo Bills in November 2022, but was not expected to be a starter.

However, the recent development over Jonathan Taylor’s future has led to uncertainty around the status of the roster going into 2023. Taylor, also a running back, is one of the star players for the Colts offense.

But it emerged over the weekend that Taylor had requested to be traded from the Colts. It was reported that the running back had a meeting with the franchise’s owner, Jim Irsay, in the team bus after a practice session on Saturday.

Taylor, it has been claimed, is believed to be seeking a new and restructured contract in line with the highest-earning running backs in the league. However, it seems that Irsay is not planning on granting either request to Taylor.

In response to the suggestion that Taylor would seek a trade, Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer claims to have received a text from Irsay which puts an end to the running back seeking a better deal with another deal.

The text is claimed to have read: "We're not trading Jonathan ... end of discussion. Not now and not in October!"

With Taylor facing an uncertain future and Moss now suffering an injury, the Colts' running back situation has gone from bad to worse.

The Colts are busy preparing for the 2023 NFL regular season that will see pre-season friendly games against the Bills, Chicago Bears and the Philadephia Eagles. That will all be the build-up to the Week One opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars, but it remains to be seen if either Taylor or Moss will be involved due to their respective reasons.
