Call of Duty: Warzone will be getting its next big content update this week, here's when it'll drop.

Call of Duty: Warzone, the free-to-play battle royale title formally known as Warzone 2, will be getting its first big update since the launch of Season 4 Reloaded in early July, with Season 5 set to introduce some new Hip Hop-themed operator skins, new weapons, a new resurgence map (in-season) and an exciting Call of Duty 2023 reveal, via an in-game live event. Although thanks to recent leaks, we already know the next Call of Duty title is going to be called Modern Warfare 3, so that does dampen the excitement somewhat.

Here's when Warzone Season 5 goes live and what to expect from the new update.

Warzone Season 5 release time

The Warzone Season 5 will release at 5pm BST / 12pm EDT / 9am PDT on Wednesday, August 2 with the new season launching worldwide simultaneously across all platforms. We know this for certain as Activision confirmed the Season 5 update launch date and time in a blog post, but also because every big season Warzone update always goes live at the same time, and always on a Wednesday.

Players on PS5 and PS4 are normally able to pre-load Warzone updates prior to the release time, but it's not such good news for players on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, who will likely have to wait until 5pm BST / 12pm EDT / 9am PDT to begin their Season 5 update download. Once the download is done though, you'll be able to drop into Season 5 right away.

Warzone Season 5 – what to expect

As well as confirming the Warzone Season 5 release time, the Call of Duty blog post also went into a bit of detail about the new content that will go live following the update. The most intriguing detail was the fact that Warzone Season 5 will feature a limited-time live event that will allow players to experience the worldwide reveal for Call of Duty 2023, a game NBA players have already played, but that has yet to be officially revealed.

Details on exactly what the live event will entail are scarce right now, but Activision has said players will have to "Join the ranks of Shadow Company to take on Konni forces and secure the chemical weapon threat before it’s too late". There will also be six new weapons for players to use in Warzone Season 5, but only two will be available at launch, with the other four being available in mid-season. Here are all the new Warzone Season 5 weapons:

  • FR Avancer (Assualt Rifle – launch)
  • Carrack .300 (Sniper Rifle – launch)
  • M13C (Assault Rifle – In-season)

  • Pickaxe (Secondary - In-season)

  • Unnamed SMG (In-season)

  • Unnamed sidearm (In-season)

But what good are new weapons without a shiny new operator? Thankfully, nine new operators will be coming to Warzone in Season 5, with hip-hop legends Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj (in-season) and 21 Savage (in-season) set to be available exclusively through store bundles, that you will have to purchase in order to obtain the skins. Shadow Company's de-facto leader Oz and Modern Warfare 2 campaign bad guy Graves are also being introduced, along with the mysterious quadruple Mila, Velikan, Mace and Arthur.
