Catherine Zeta-Jones cosies up to Michael Douglas on fun-filled boat trip
Catherine Zeta-Jones lounged in style with her husband Michael Douglas as the pair cosied up on a boat trip with friends.
The Hollywood couple got close as they sat with their close pals on the boat which cruised along the Portofino coast. Catherine, 53, wore a pair of gold-coloured earrings and a matching necklace, with a pair of huge sunglasses and tied her brunette locks into a low bun as she sat with husband Michael, who opted for a relaxed outfit made up of a baseball cap, sunglasses and a t-shirt.
Michael and Catherine appeared to be engaged in a quiet conversation despite being closely surrounded by friends during the trip. The sighting comes after Michael hit back at social media and the way in which it has ruined how he can go about his day-today life.
The veteran actor, 78, has had a fruitful career which has spanned over five decades, but he insists the popularity of people sharing their thoughts online has been a detriment to his privacy. And it's a belief that he says is echoed by his long-time pal Leonardo DiCaprio, 48.
Michael, who is married to Catherine Zeta-Jones, revealed he is shocked at how quickly news can now be spread thanks to social networks, admitting it's limited his private life. The Basic Instinct star was discussing the issue while at the Cannes Film Festival, which saw Johnny Depp's return to the big screen.
Catherine Zeta-Jones enjoys husband Michael Douglas' premiere with lookalike sonMichael told Daily Mail ha no longer has the "freedom" he used to have prior to the rise of social media. "Things have changed a lot before social media- before social media you had more secrets.," he confessed.
"You were able to have quiet gatherings together without everyone knowing. Now, wherever you go - I was talking to Leonardo DiCaprio about that - you get a sighting and then people text the thing and then the next thing you know, there's a 100 then a 1000 people that are connecting." He then complained: "You don't have that kind of freedom as before."
Catherine and Michael first met in 1998 at the Deauville Film Festival in France, where they were introduced by mutual friends Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffith. In 2001, the Welsh beauty told Larry King: "I had been told Michael Douglas wanted to meet me. I was a little nervous because I didn’t quite know what he wanted to meet me about."
And the script continued over a decade later, when Michael told Jonathan Ross it was love at first sight. On his talk show, the actor said: "I said to her after about half an hour [of hanging out], ‘You know, I’m going to be the father of your children'. It sounded good, and she said, ‘You know, I’ve heard a lot about you and I’ve seen a lot about you, and I think it’s time I say goodnight.'"
In order to correct their awkward first encounter, Michael sent Catherine a bouquet of flowers as an apology and the rest is history.
