Former NFL running back has given his opinion on why the New York Giants are paying Saquon Barkley less than Daniel Jones.

The subject of contracts in the NFL has led to frequent debate, particularly in the running back market. Barkley was among the players to be handed the franchise tag earlier in the off-season.

Initially, Barkley did not sign a contract with the Giants. After the franchise tag deadline passed on July 17, it meant that the running back could no longer put pen to paper on a long-term deal.

Eventually, it was agreed that Barkley would sign a one-year deal with the Giants worth £8.55million ($11m). The news came months after it was first announced that Giants quarterback Jones would be handed a long-term extension.

The Giants QB agreed to a four-year deal worth £124m ($160m), which equates to £31m ($40m) per year. That figure is considerably higher than what Barkley will be paid this year at the MetLife Stadium.

Bell has not played in the NFL since he left the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in January 2022. The running back, who was the No.48 overall pick in 2013 for thee Pittsburgh Steelers, has since turned to a life away from football.

The 31-year-old has since taken up professional boxing, and has also set up an OnlyFans account. And now the former running back, who is still technically a free agent, has weighed in on the debate around contracts for players in his position.

Bell labelled Jones a “bottom tier” quarterback and questioned why Barkley will earn considerably less money this year than his teammate.

“Daniel Jones, he’s in the bottom tier. He’s in the bottom tier of NFL quarterbacks,” Bell said on the AP Pro Football podcast.

“He’s not mediocre. There are average quarterbacks, he’s in the bottom tier. I’m not here trying to talk bad about Daniel Jones.

“I’m just trying to be real for everybody who’s hearing it. He’s in the bottom tiers. Saquon [Barkley] is in the top tier of his position, running back. So how does that make sense?”

Bell uses his OnlyFans account in order to connect with his fans, and uses it more as a personal vlog where he posts music clips and plays video games on live streaming.

"I decided to do OnlyFans as a platform for the simple fact to get more intimate with my fans,” Bell told . “There’s times where – people know I make music, people know I box, play football, so I use that platform for times to get intimate with my fans," Bell told Fox News Digital in a recent interview.

Bell added: "When I’m boxing, people want to see how I look when I spar, or how did I cut so much weight in a week or two, or what I’m eating during the week of the fight, whatever it may be.

"That’s my chance to really get intimate with my fans and show them exactly what I’m doing, exactly how I’m going about my week or my day or how I train or how I record in the studio and give that opportunity for my fans more intimately."
