Pop paedophile Gary Glitter has had thousands of pounds of belongings delivered to his cell after being sent back to prison again. The gear includes designer clothes, Bluetooth headphones, an XBox and an expensive Longines watch.

And the fiend even wanted a copy of his own autobiography, Leader, and a poster of himself in his glam-rock heyday – now said to be on his cell wall. The belongings were stored at a hostel the disgraced former star was living at after being freed halfway through a 16-year sentence for abusing girls.

Glitter, 79, was returned to HMP The Verne on Portland Island, off Dorset, after breaching his licence conditions. A source said: “It’s a disgrace this was allowed. He was recalled for utterly vile behaviour and is the most hated pervert in Britain. He’s a serial child abuser and this should not be happening. His poor victims would rather the belongings be burnt than transported at a cost to the taxpayer just in case he gets bored.”

Tory MP Nigel Mills added: “It’s shocking. This doesn’t feel like a great use of time and effort.” Other items sent to Glitter in recent weeks include a Diesel grey leather jacket and shirt, Levi’s jeans, a Levi’s jacket, a tie, a summer jacket, six hats and beanies, two balaclavas and a copy of legal bestseller The Secret Barrister.

They would have been thoroughly vetted by prison bosses and anything not allowed would have been rejected. The source said Glitter put “serious thought” into what he wanted.

They said: “The list shows he is very vain. He wanted his book there, and poster. It also shows Glitter still has money and possessions worth a good amount. It’s more than the vast majority of prisoners could afford. He’d feel important it was being transferred. His victims and the many impacted by his crimes would be horrified.”

The I’m the Leader of the Gang singer, real name Paul Gadd, was jailed in 2015 for historic sex attacks on three girls. Two were aged 12 and 13. The third was under 10 when he crept into her bed in an attempt to rape her in 1975.

He was freed from the Dorset jail in February but recalled 38 days later when photos emerged of him using a smartphone at his hostel. Glitter was found to have viewed footage on YouTube and TikTok of eight-year-olds in ballet clothes. It was also reported the monster had discussed the dark web with others.

Glitter, who sold 18 million records and had three number ones, was first jailed in 1999 over child sex abuse pictures after taking his computer to PC World for repairs. He moved abroad but in 2002 was expelled from Cambodia amid child sex allegations. And in 2006 he was jailed in Vietnam for abusing two girls, aged 10 and 11.

The Prison Service said: “Prisoners’ access to possessions is strictly controlled and they face further punishment if they are found with an item that is not allowed.”
