A mother is in jail on a child endangerment charge, and a 14-year-old girl is now in the custody of her grandparents after she allegedly used her own child as a human shield after police drew their weapons at her.

Authorities assumed it was a hostage situation as they reportedly watched a teen get dragged from a passenger seat and held in a headlock position while being put in the line of fire - before learning it was allegedly the woman's own daughter.

Houston area police originally suspected Tenescha Selena Henry, 35, of theft. The woman, apparently fearing arrest, hopped in her car and led the police on a 25-mile chase down the highway at speeds of over 100 miles per hour. But eventually, she ran out of gas.

As police cornered her, she reportedly grabbed someone out of the backseat and dragged them in front of police, screaming "Shoot! Shoot me! Shoot us!" Chilling video footage from a local station shows the girl crying and begging her mom to stop.

"She essentially got out of the vehicle, walked around to the front of the car, opened the passenger side door," Deputy A. Peters told KTRK. "She grabbed an unknown female out of the passenger side and proceeded to grab her, take her out of the car where she, unfortunately, put her in what we would call a chokehold and put her in front of law enforcement."

Eventually, an officer was able to sneak up behind the woman and taser her into submission. She was taken to jail and charged while the daughter asked to be released to her grandparents. Cops found a third man in the car, who was apparently Henry's boyfriend. He was taken into custody as well, without resistance.

“At that point, I 100% believed that we had a hostage situation,” said Peters. “I distinctly remember her at times saying, ‘Shoot! Shoot me! Shoot us!'” the deputy said of the mom. “To put your own family member, not to mention your daughter, right in front of that potential danger is just kind of crazy to me.”

A police statement explained that Henry was already caught committing a crime. When they searched her car, authorities found numerous pieces of evidence.

"Deputies conducted an inventory search of the vehicle and located 22 pieces of identifying information. The items included Texas driver’s licenses, Texas security licenses, Social Security cards, Lone Star EBT cards, credit/debit cards and health insurance cards."

Authorities said that further investigation revealed the identifying items were taken without consent. Henry had attempted to use the credit/debit cards.

Henry was charged with evading arrest, child endangerment and fraud. She remains in Harris County jail and is due back in court on Sept. 27.
