A man arrested in a shocking case where he allegedly kept his children locked in cages was a wannabe rapper who posted pictures of flashy cars and wads of cash.

Travis Doss, 31, who has been charged with over 40 offences, including multiple counts of child abuse and allegations of sex trafficking involving his wife, was making music under the stage name 'Trap Montana', it has been revealed.

His wife, Amanda Stamper, 33, also faces seven charges of child abuse, one for each of her seven children, including their two-year-old daughter, who is her only biological child with Doss.

The couple faces indictment by a Clark County grand jury after police officers walked into their apartment in Paradise, Las Vegas, to find children locked in a cage, and one child with two black eyes swollen shut, along with numerous marks and bruises all over his emaciated body.

The child was in such a critical state that his father reportedly believed he had beaten him to death. Police officers said it was "the worst" child abuse case they had ever seen. Doss' 11-year-old son told police that he was beaten while locked in the cage for no reason.

Travis Doss, from Las Vegas, used the stage name 'Trap Montana' while trying to build a career as a rapper. He presented himself as a flashy artist on social media, bragging about owning exotic cars and spending large amounts of money.

Doss used his music and social media posts to brag about living a "hustler" lifestyle and flashing stacks of cash, referring to them as "bricks." In a music video titled "Exotic," Doss showcased himself handling what appeared to be an automatic rifle, playfully strumming it like a guitar.

His lyrics contained references to carrying weapons and engaging in illegal activities, perpetuating a persona of a tough and dangerous character. In one of his songs, he sang: "Everywhere I go, I keep me a strap. Everywhere I go, n***** yell trap. Callin’ ’bout your h*, you can’t get her back."

On his social media accounts, he also posted about dining at upscale restaurants, claiming that he used to eat ramen but now enjoyed expensive 30-ounce steaks every day.

Despite the outward appearance of wealth and success, authorities discovered the appalling conditions in which his family lived, with two of his children locked in a dog kennel and six children left alone without proper care, food, or hygiene.

His wife claimed that Doss made her work in the sex industry and threatened to take her child away if she refused. The couple was arrested after Stamper called the police because she was scared of Doss.

Amanda Stamper told 8 News Now that she herself was a victim of his severe domestic abuse. She said: "I was abused as well, not just them. He would use my children and my family if I was ever to call the police like he would go find my family and my kids, he's just a really violent person'."

Currently pregnant, she said she felt remorse for not seeking help sooner and apologised for the children's prolonged suffering. Stamper's public defender maintained that she had not physically abused the children. Prosecutors acknowledged that Stamper worked as a sex worker under Doss's direction.

Both Doss and Stamper appeared in court on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to the charges against them. Authorities are ensuring that the rescued children receive the necessary care and support.
