Liverpool seal £800k move for 14-year-old wonderkid from Premier League rivals
Liverpool have completed an £800k deal for Wolves wonderkid Harvey Owen.
The Reds have been busy in the transfer market this summer with combined £95m deals for Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai from Brighton and RB Leipzig. More are expected to follow with Liverpool having lodged a £37m bid for Southampton star Romeo Lavia.
Whilst the club hierarchy appear intent on bolstering Jurgen Klopp’s first-team options, they have also added a promising youngster to their ranks. The Reds reportedly agreed an £800k deal to sign Owen, 14, from Wolves back in May and he has now confirmed that a move has been completed.
Taking to Instagram, he wrote: “Very happy to sign for Liverpool, can’t wait to get started. Thank you to everybody who has helped me to get where I am today and just wanna say big thank you to Wolves who have supported me throughout my career.”
Liverpool have pushed through a deal for Owen, who will now slot into the youth ranks at the club. They have paid more than any compensation that would have been determined by a tribunal in order to secure his services amid fierce competition.

Owen is extremely highly-rated despite his tender years. Ex-Wolves academy coach Wes Hughes revealed last year that former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure was a big fan.

“We recently played at Tottenham and he had a nice pat on the back from an ex-player in Yaya Toure,” Hughes said. “He personally went up to Harvey and said that he had a lot of potential and would be a really good player in the future, so I think he’ll be really proud of that.”
Speaking about what type of player Owen is, Hughes added: “He’s a right-footed player who likes to play on the left side at the back – whether that’s in a back three or a back four. He’s come on leaps and bounds in terms of his football.”
Owen’s move to Merseyside is the latest swoop from Liverpool as they attempt to bolster their youth ranks ahead of next season. 10 players departed the Reds’ academy set-up at the end of last season, with six of those being released, whilst four of those have been sold to other clubs.
Striker Layton Stewart is among those to have left and has joined Preston. Taking to Instagram after the move was confirmed, he said: “To Liverpool, where do I start… today is the day I say goodbye to the club that I’ve been at for the last 16 years of my life, this club has been all that I’ve known - but now i think it’s time for me to take the next step in my career.
“What a journey it has been, from signing for Liverpool at the age of 5, with a dream of playing for the first team, to then getting the chance to make my debut at Anfield! With everything else along the way - I will hold these memories & feelings close for the rest of my career.”
