Shocking before and after pictures of a five-star resort hotel in Rhodes have laid bare the devastation in the wake of the wildfires.

Thousands of Britons have been rescued from fire-ravaged parts of the Greek island after record-breaking fires engulfed parts of the popular holiday destination.

As many as 10,000 Brits are estimated to have been on the island at the time, the Foreign Office said, with 30,000 due to head there in the next few weeks.

A harrowing TikTok starts with holidaymakers relaxing by the pool at the luxury Lindos Imperial Resort and Spa in the village of Kiotari. The second part of the clip flashes to footage of the same pool area of the hotel covered in ash, with burned loungers scattered around in the background.

The hotel announced in a social media post that those who still have belongings at the property could go and collect them.

It said in a statement: "The safety and well-being of our guests and staff are our utmost priority and we have taken this precautionary measure to ensure everyone's security. We want to emphasise that we are in constant communication with the local authorities, closely monitoring the situation.

"Rest assured, we are taking all necessary measures to address the situation responsibly and ensure a safe environment for everyone. During this challenging time, we extend our deepest gratitude for your understanding and support."

The Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, said: “We are at war - completely focused on the fires. Over the coming days and weeks, we must remain on constant alert.”

Yesterday the Mirror visited the fire-ravaged south of the island which has indeed been left looking like a war zone. In the melted reception of the award-winning luxury Rodos Princess Hotel in the South East near Kitari, flip-flops, prams and armbands had been left behind in the rush to escape.

The atrium of the four-star hotel had melted and collapsed, windows were blown out. A worker said the suitcases left sitting in the lobby belonged to Jet2 UK holidaymakers.

Traumatised Brits who flew back home yesterday told of how they had to run for their lives for three hours. They said they could hear the huge flames “crackling” behind them before they were rescued by the army.
