Gary Lineker was in a relaxed mood as he enjoyed a holiday with ex-wife Danielle Bux in Ibiza.

Lineker, 62, and Bux, 44, got divorced in 2016 but were spotted together in the Balearic Islands during their time off. Bux's two daughters Ella, 21, and Romy, 5, were also present on the holiday.

The Sun obtained images which showed Lineker looking chilled alongside Bux - seven years after the pair went their separate ways. They were seen relaxing on sun loungers in the White Isle, with Lineker wearing a brown t-shirt and beige shorts, while Bux wore a dark red bikini.

An eye-witness told the newspaper: "It was hard to think Gary and Danielle are not blissfully married. They looked so relaxed and intimate in each other's company. They have re-written the rulebook on how a divorced couple can get on. They clearly still adore each other."

This isn't the first time Lineker and Bux have been spotted meeting following their divorce. Last December, Lineker had his "annual Christmas dinner" with Bux and her daughter Ella. At the time, Lineker said it was "always a delight" as he shared some time with his former wife and step-daughter.

However, Lineker has always reiterated his strong friendship with Bux, despite her now being married to US lawyer Nate Greenwald. "It was purely down to children," Lineker said about their split in an interview with Gabby Logan on her podcast The Mid-Point in March. "She already had a daughter, I had four boys, [but] then her body clock started ticking and she had the urge."

"In the end, we decided 'Well, why don't we just stay mates?'," he recalled. "She didn't want me to do something that I didn't really want, deep down - and I didn't want to stop her from doing something that she really wanted, deep down, so we just came to a logical and sensible [split]."

Bux uploaded several images of her holiday to Instagram, though Lineker did not feature in any. Speaking of his friendship with Bux to Logan, he said: "After [the initial lust in the early stages of married life], you become mates, don't you? And if you don't become mates, then you've got a problem!

"We are best buddies and speak most days and [her husband] is a good friend of mine now!"

Lineker has had a mixed year after his row with the BBC due to comments he made about the government's policy about asylum seekers. The situation was eventually resolved after Lineker didn't appear on Match of the Day for a weekend - and he released a statement after it was all sorted out.

He tweeted: "After a surreal few days, I’m delighted that we have navigated a way through this. I want to thank you all for the incredible support, particularly my colleagues at BBC Sport, for the remarkable show of solidarity. Football is a team game but their backing was overwhelming.

"I have been presenting sport on the BBC for almost 3 decades and am immeasurably proud to work with the best and fairest broadcaster in the world. I cannot wait to get back in the MOTD chair on Saturday.

"A final thought: however difficult the last few days have been, it simply doesn’t compare to having to flee your home from persecution or war to seek refuge in a land far away. It’s heartwarming to have seen the empathy towards their plight from so many of you."
