Dragons' Den star Evan Davis has candidly reflected on his wedding day after being told his father had passed away as he prepared to walk down the aisle.

The BBC Radio 4 presenter shared that his brother Roland delivered the heartbreaking news over a phone call and encouraged him to continue with his wedding day along with his other brother Beric.

During the wedding ceremony, the 61-year-old journalist informed his wedding guests of his father's tragic death but told them not to be "alarmed" and there's "nothing we can do".

Evan said the day became a "very warm-hearted, supportive, reflective" after he told a small number of close-knit family and friends at the venue in London in July 2022.

He told his guests at the time: "We've just had some news. My father died. But I don't want you to be alarmed. He was very elderly and it was definitely time.

"There's actually nothing we can do. So I'm going to propose that we carry on."

While he remained calm throughout the ceremony, the presenter "burst into tears" the next day when reminded of the occasion.

Speaking to The Sunday Times about the traumatic day in his life, the presenter said his 92-year-old father, Quintin, had been diagnosed with bowel cancer and had a failing heart.

Quintin had taken his own life but Evan couldn't understand why his father would want to end his life on his son's wedding day.

"We've all speculated on what the hell was going on in his head… there's no good day, is there? And I know he didn't do it to spoil our day."

Evan's father previously attempted suicide and left his sons emails of his intention to kill himself. In one email, the message read: "To all my family, I am so sorry - so, so sorry - to spring this on you. But it is the best outcome.

"My system is closing down and I am on the verge of a mental breakdown. I really have no alternative. Thank you all for being such a wonderful family."

Davis married Guillaume Baltz in a follow-up event to their civil partnership ceremony in 2012 when Quintin had made a "proud and loving" speech.
