Indie rockers McFly whipped the Tramlines audience into a frenzy as they secretly took to the Sarah Nulty Main Stage.

The group who were teased on the line up as the Scottish Flies instantly had the packed crowd singing and dancing along to some of their biggest hits.

Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter, Harry Judd and Tom Fletcher walked onto the stage leaving the crowd stunned yet electric.

Taking to the stage, Danny said: “sheffield, how’s it going? It’s a pleasure to be here!”

Dougie added: “From the depths of Satans d**k we have been McFly!”

The bassist for the hit group was wearing just a pair of dungarees for their performance, instantly sparking the crowd to chat: “Get naked!” - to which he agreed, as he flashed his: “Large dark nipples for a dude.”

One festival goer told the Mirror: “We had absolutely no idea. We’re huge McFly fans so we were naturally ecstatic.

“We just couldn’t believe them, we loved the whole line up but McFly certainly were the best act of the whole weekend - Obviously they knew what they were doing by not announcing their set.”

All week leading up to the festival, there had been rumours of a secret set on the Sarah Nulty Main Stage and the eagle-eyed may have noticed a band called Scottish Flies on the setlist.

Curious fans and festival-goers alike guessed that Scottish Flies may have been an alias for McFly, and the rumour mill spread when the Tramlines team have teased an appearance at the Sheffield festival.

On Twitter, Tramlines posted: “It's all about you, Sheffield" - clear reference to one of McFly’s biggest hits.

It comes after the much-loved band surprised music lovers in Pizza Express earlier this month, with a secret gig seeing them belt out thier classic hits to some lucky fans after an unexpected appearance.

The group, consisting of Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Harry Judd and Dougie Poynter, made an unannounced appearance at the Dean Street chain of the famous restaurant for an epic performance.

From Five Colours In Her Hair and Star Girl to Obviously, the boys belted out some of their classic hits leaving their audience thrilled. Long-time fans were pretty excited to hear some of their older tracks, including Surfer Babe, Too Close For Comfort and Broccoli.

The group performed at the iconic venue, of which musical legends including Amy Winehouse and Van Morrison have performed, as part of the chain's new mission to fill the UK streets with music this summer.
