Former X Factor star Jake Quickenden has said a strict BBC rule is preventing him from appearing on Strictly Come Dancing.

The 34-year-old singer and dad-of-one hasn't shied away from appearing on popular reality shows in the past and had a successful stint on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here in 2014, where he finished in second place.

In 2018, Jake won ITV's Dancing on Ice with his partner Vanessa Bauer after the likeable pair managed to make their way to the final and skate off against finalists Coronation Street's Brooke Vincent and rugby star Max Evans.

However, Jake has revealed his victory had hindered his chance at bagging a spot among the celebrities who take part in Strictly Come Dancing.

The TV star told Daily Star: "I'd love to do Strictly – the booker, she's not having it, I don't think anyone has done Dancing On Ice to Strictly, its always been Strictly to Dancing On Ice, but they need to mix it up and get me on there."

The new series of Strictly Come Dancing is around the corner, with a number of celebrities tipped to be named in this year's line-up. Bosses have reportedly signed-up a West end star Layton Williams to bring the heat on the ballroom dance floor.

Layton Williams has performed on stage in productions such as Everybody's Talking About Jamie, Hairspray!, Rent, Thriller Live.

"Layton is an incredible dancer and performer," a source told the MailOnline before adding: "Strictly bosses signing him for the show will ruffle some feathers because he is professionally trained and has extensive experience with learning difficult choreography, which many of the contestants, especially those from a sporting or political background, will at first find impossible.

"The show has been criticised in the past for recruiting contestants with a background in dance and this year will be no different as Layton is a star in his own right and known for being an impeccable dancer on stage."

The BBC has expressed they won't be commenting on names that have are being speculated but have claimed television star Angela Rippon, 78, could be the oldest-ever contestant to take to the dance floor alongside former Coronation Street actress Ellie Leach.
