Prince William will miss a key event for the King in a major calendar clash where he could be seen to be “getting one over” on Charles, according to a royal expert.

The House of Parliament stated that the 2023 State Opening of Parliament will take place on November 7 - the first time Charles will deliver his King’s Speech.

It will be a major event for the King, who did step in for the Queen when she was unwell last year, but he will now be delivering his first address as monarch.

But his eldest son is going to be in Singapore as the date clashes with the Earthshot Prize ceremony, which the Prince of Wales is committed to attending along with wife Kate.

Royal columnist Daniela Elser says the double-booking is no one’s fault, but suggests the media will be more drawn to following the younger royal.

She wrote for news.com.au: "Ask yourself, if you were a newspaper or website editor, what picture would you want to use: a photo of Charles looking dead-serious and ruddy-faced while Camilla has that slightly glazed look in her eyes like she’s trying to remember if they cracked a window in the State Coach for their Jack Russells?

"Or a lovely shot of the prince and princess with the latter no doubt looking her usual marvellous, sparkly self?

"While this snafu is neither Charles nor William’s fault, simply a cruel twist of the timetabling gods, that does not change the fact that when this all plays out, it will likely be only the latest instance of William getting one over his dear old dad."

It comes after some royal commentators also claimed that the Waleses "stole the show" during the King's Coronation in June this year with their media team also having released photos and videos of their build up to the event.

Last year William was at Parliament to support Charles standing in for the Queen where, during an 11-minute speech, he used the phrase “Her Majesty’s government” instead of what will now be “my government”.

It was the first time that William attended an Opening of Parliament with Camilla also taking part in the ceremony.

But this year he will be at the ceremony for the Earthshot Prize which is awarded to five winners each year for their contributions to environmentalism. It was first awarded in 2021 and is planned to run annually until 2030.
