A 90s movie star from legendary murder/mystery film Scooby-Doo is completely unrecognisable after undergoing a major career U-turn, with them now following in their mum's footsteps.

Freddie Prinze Jr. starred in 2002 hit film Scooby-Doo, which saw the now-47-year-old actor take on the role of Fred Jones. The film follows Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and their dog, Scooby-Doo as they all reunite after two years apart, with them joining forces once again as they investigate strange occurrences at a resort on Spooky Island.

The Los Angeles-born star is also known for starring in a string of other smash hit movies, with him known for appearing in the likes of She's All That, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and more recently Christmas With You.

But these days, Freddie looks very different to how he did when portraying characters in 90s and noughties box office smash hits. When he portrayed Fred in Scooby-Doo, he sported platinum blond locks and a freshly shaven face. But these days he's grey and has stubble.

And Freddie - is is married to Buffy star Sarah Michelle Gellar - previously revealed that cooking is where his passion lies, with cooking even running in his blood. Speaking to CBS News in 2017, the iconic actor said: "My mother worked in restaurants her whole life. That's where she met my father, at a comedy club in Reno, Nevada. She was the chef there."

Freddie is characterised as a celebrity chef, with his debut cookbook, which was titled Back to the Kitchen: 75 Delicious, Real Recipes (& True Stories) From a Food-Obsessed Actor, coming out back in 2016.

And had the star have gone to cooking school, as per his "backup plan", we might not have known what a great actor he is.

When Freddie caught up with The Kitchn, he revealed: "When I graduated high school my mum encouraged (okay, 'forced') me to attend cooking school as a backup plan to my acting ambitions. I was all set to go to Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Pasadena when I got my first real acting gig — and the rest is history."

He did however add: "But I never stopped loving good food or cooking."

Another career U-turn is that Freddie is involved with wrestling, with him starting to write his thoughts on a WWE blog in the late noughties. And in November 2021 he even started his own podcast Wrestling With Freddie with co-host Jeff Dye.

Something that might come as a surprise to you also, might be how Freddie has voiced how he regrets portraying Scooby-Doo's Fred. Speaking out in March to TooFab, Freddie said: "I've been on two jobs where I had regret doing it and Scooby was one of them."

He then responded to a question about returning to the role, with him replying: "It wouldn't be something I would do. I have zero interest. There was just too much bait and switch on the first one. The studio was not honest with me in any way shape or form."
