Pat Sajak has been spotted for first time since stepping down from Wheel of Fortune, with Ryan Seacrest named as his replacement.

Chicago-born Pat, 76, is best known as the host of the host of the gameshow, a gig he has held since 1981. But back in June the beloved host revealed that he will be stepping down and retiring next year.

"Well, the time has come," he said on Twitter last month, with him adding: "I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last. It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all."

And now Pat has been seen for the first time since the news was announced online, with him seemingly having a clear out before his retirement from the show.

The famous television icon could be seen in the snaps looking lowkey in a plain white t-shirt, some navy shorts and a baseball cap. He also concealed his identity further with some sunglasses while running some errands in the afternoon.

And Pat didn't mind being papped by photographers, with him even giving them a thumbs up and a grin as he got back in his car and drove off.

Wheel of Fortune is a beloved gameshow in the US, with it having aired on television continuously since January 1975. The show features a competition in which contestants solve word puzzles in order to win money and various other prizes, with it all determined by spinning a giant carnival-style wheel.

Fronting the gameshow since the 80s, host Pat has picked up 19 nominations for the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game Show Host, with him winning gongs for the award in total.

Reports say that Pat will continue to serve as a Wheel of Fortune consultant for three years after his retirement as host, with Ryan Seacrest announced as his successor as host two weeks after Pat's announcement.

In a statement released when the news was announced, esteemed TV presenter Ryan said that he was "truly humbled to be stepping into the footsteps of the legendary Pat Sajak". He added: "I can’t wait to continue the tradition of spinning the wheel and working alongside the great Vanna White."

Pat is married to photographer Lesly Brown-Sajak, with the pair welcoming two children together. The pair share a son, Patrick Michael James Sajak, and a daughter, Maggie Marie Sajak.
