Wheel of Fortune host quits the show after 40 years in bombshell statement
Pat Sajak has announced he is retiring from Wheel of Fortune after 40 years as host.
Taking to Twitter to announce the news, the 76-year-old wrote: "Well, the time has come. I've decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last.
"It's been a wonderful ride, and I'll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all. (If nothing else, it'll keep the clickbait sites busy!)"
It's yet to be confirmed who will be replacing Pat on the popular NBC show.
Suzanne Prete, executive vice president for game shows at Sony Pictures Television, expressed her thanks to Pat in a statement as she reflected on his career.

She continued: "We are incredibly grateful and proud to have had Pat as our host for all these years and we look forward to celebrating his outstanding career throughout the upcoming season.
"Pat has agreed to continue as a consultant on the show for three years following his last year hosting, so we're thrilled to have him remaining close to the Wheel of Fortune family," she told CNN.
Pat began hosting Wheel of Fortune back in 1983 after he was offered the job while working as a weather reporter for a local TV channel in Los Angeles.

Fans took to Twitter to thank Pat for his entertaining work over the years.
"Pat, the show will not be the same without you. Glad we get one more season! Thank you for all the great memories and entertainment and I hope that means more time for your great Twitter content," one viewer wrote.
Another said: "We watch most evenings. Thank you Pat for a wonderful, non-political, family friendly show."
"Thanks for the memories, Pat. Things come and go, but you were always there on my TV at 6:30pm. A familiar face to the “latch key” generation, and beyond.
"You will be missed. Enjoy your retirement," a third person added.
