A Burger King manager has been arrested over allegedly serving customers chips from a bin.

Jaime Christine Major, 39, the assistant manager of a South Carolina Burger King, was charged on Monday with the felony of tampering with food.

She is accused of taking French fries from the bin and adding them to the container where freshly cooked chips are placed and then dumping fresh fries on top.

Police were called to a disturbance at the Burger King in question on July 9.

The Union Police Department arrived to find two customers screaming at restaurant staff, threatening them and using profanity.

The two were described in the police report as "two black females using body language pointing at employees that indicated they were angry about something."

Responding officer Sgt. Bryan Shaver tried to calm them down but they continued "being loud and boisterous and using profanity towards employees."

The two women were arrested when they refused officers' requests for them to calm down. They were charged with disorderly conduct.

While being escorted away in handcuffs, one of the women threatened to harm management when she got out of jail.

The women had their mug shots taken as they were booked at Union County Jail, but were later named as victims in Major's crime.

Days later, Burger King headquarters called police and allegedly admitted the assistant manager had been serving chips from the bin.

A warrant was issued for Major’s arrest after an investigation.

If convicted she could face up to 20 years in prison.

A Burger King spokesperson told Fox Business: "These allegations do not align to the brand's commitment to quality food and service and creating an exceptional Guest experience.

"The Franchisee of this restaurant is cooperating with local authorities and will take appropriate action based on the findings.

"As this remains an ongoing investigation, we are unable to share additional details at this time."

A judge set Major's bond at $20,000.

She remained in custody at the Union County Detention Center.
