A group of Just Stop Oil campaigners were themselves blocked in by a counter protest group who formed a circle around them in London.

Footage shows the new group with Just Stop P***ing Everyone Off written on their T-shirts, having formed a human chain to stop a slow march through the capital.

Holding hands and wearing orange T-shirts, the same colour as the protesters’ outfits, the green campaigners were left sitting on the floor and looking bemused.

A video shot in Elephant and Castle in south London showed the standoff where activists gave their views on why they were protesting and the JSPEO group told them to stop messing with peoples lives.

One of the activists said over a loud speaker: "Yesterday I was arrested for peacefully protesting on the road but I am back down here today because it is our democratic right to do so and we know that disruption isn’t comfortable but it is necessary and we meet this circle of people around us.

"We do agree about the same things except we have that sense of urgency that when you see a house on fire you are not going to ask permission from the people inside to call the fire rescue."

Someone from the JSPEO said that they were not holding people hostage and that the Just Stop Oil protesters within the circle could leave.

It comes as other footage shared by Just Stop Oil shows a coach driving into protesters on Cromwell Road in South Kensington on Thursday. It was moving at a very slow speed and nobody seemed to be injured from the clip.

There were 132 supporters of JSO who began marching in nine groups around London from 9am.

On Wednesday the protests led to one campaigner Daniel Knorr, 21, being kicked and punched to the ground on Earl's Court Road.

A video of the confrontation was shared widely on social media, and is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police who said they spoke to the protestor who does not want to pursue any action - but enquiries are ongoing to identify the aggressor.

The clip shows a silver Mercedes being pulled halfway across a road, having apparently crashed.

A woman then leaves the car and screams "Stop now, I'm pregnant" before a man gets out and confronts the protesters, screaming: "Stop now, stop recording, you little s***."

Then, the man is filmed appearing to punch Mr Knorr in the face before stamping and kicking him while he lies prone on the ground.

In a statement shared yesterday, Just Stop Oil said: "Daniel was assaulted while marching this morning, and remained nonviolent throughout. Disruption is difficult, but it's necessary."
