When it comes to tattoos, some are incredibly personal with private meaning, while others simply get fun inkings that make them smile, but ultimately you have to go for something that you know you will love - after all, it's going to be on you for the rest of your life.

How would you feel though if you ended up getting the exact tattoo that one of your family members had been hoping to get? This is the situation one woman claims to have found herself in after getting a spontaneous tattoo with her husband as part of a flash sale. She's since been accused of 'copying' her sister-in-law's dream tattoo and feels guilty even though she didn't remember the other woman ever wanting the inking.

The anonymous person shared her story on Reddit's Am I The A**hole Forum explaining: "So this past weekend my husband and I went to a flash tattoo sale. We both picked tattoos from the flash sheets. I got a Super Mario-themed tattoo (one of the main characters). It was the cutest one there. I love the game and the character. All went well and I love it.

"So, after we got the tattoos, we went to a family party and everyone asked us what we got, so we showed them. And my SIL [sister-in-law] was like 'Wtf! I told you I wanted to get that!' And I was like What?' I don't remember ever having this conversation.

"I know we were talking about getting cartoon tattoos but I honestly 100% forgot. I just chose the one that I liked at the tattoo shop. Not even thinking of her. Again, she told me that she wanted to get it. I told her 'Well you can still get the character, just get a different design' and she was like 'No I don't want to now'. I told her that I don't remember her saying that but she seemed pi***d.

"I feel bad that I stole her idea. But I honestly didn't do it on purpose. I feel like she was disgusted at the thought of getting the same tattoo as me or something. Or if she said that just to hurt me. So AITA because she did tell me she wanted it but my memory sucks".

People were quick to chime in with their thoughts, causing a mixed reaction as one user comments: "First this wasn't intentional on your part. Then there are millions of other designs out there. If she really wants to, she can find another that she likes."

Another wrote: "If you truly don't recall this conversation then there was no a**hole intention."

A different user replied: "Tattoo design ownership isn't a thing. NTA. And this was flash - literally, a design picked out of a book or off a wall. A design likely chosen by hundreds of other people."

But one user supports the sister-in-law calling the user a 'copycat' as they penned: "You really really didn't remember? Because yeah I'd be really annoyed if I told a friend I wanted to get a Mario tattoo and then they show up with a Mario tattoo. Nobody owns it, ESPECIALLY if you picked it from flash but yeah I'd be really annoyed and wouldn't want to get it anymore. Copycat vibes."
