Love Island star Mitchel Taylor had his sights set on Rita Ora following her unexpected performance in the ITV2 villa.

As the singletons edge closer to the final, they were whisked off to a lavish beach party to celebrate their time on the show when Praising You songstress Rita appeared.

But as Rita grew closer to the end of her set, she had hoped to get close to the Islanders having seen them on screen for a number of weeks as they started to dance to the music. But as Mitch made his move while Rita was singing her single Anywhere, he faced an awkward rejection.

The Sheffield-born singleton took Ora by her arm to twirl her around – but she later turned her back to him which viewers at home instantly picked up on.

Taking to Twitter, one penned: "Not Mitch getting pied by even Rita Ora." As a second went on to write: "Mitch even got left hanging by Rita Ora."

"The way Rita just aired Mitch and he tried to play it off," commented another, before a fourth typed: "Mitch trying so hard to get noticed by Rita Ora was cringe."

But that wasn't the most dramatic event which took place in the villa as not one but four contestants were brutally dumped from the island and sent home. Kady McDermott, Ouzy See, Amber Wise and Josh Brocklebank were soon sent packing - with there being a huge twist.

The public was asked to vote for their favourite couple, with the three couples with the least votes left at risk of being dumped from the island. Maya headed into the party to tell the Islanders the result of this vote.

Maya told the cast: "Well Islanders, the public have been voting for their favourite couple. We’re going to do things a little bit differently this time - you know we love a plot twist."

The host revealed who the public voted as their favourite couple, confirming it to be Whitney and Lochan before adding: "I have some more news that might not be that great. The three couples with the least amount of votes will be vulnerable and at risk of being dumped from the island tonight."

It soon emerged that one couple would be sent home then and there as the lowest-voted couple, and this was Amber and Josh.

Whitney and Lochan then had to decide who to send packing out of the remaining couples, and they sent home Kady and Ouzy. Mitchel Taylor and Ella B were also in the bottom three.
