Bayern Munich will formalise a new bid for Harry Kane, despite fearing a setback in their pursuit of the England captain.

The German club’s transfer committee is due to meet on Tuesday and are ready to test Tottenham ’s resolve with an £80million bid. But there are fears at Bayern that life president Uli Hoeness may have upset their chances of landing the England captain.

Hoeness bullishly claimed that Kane had given his word and “Tottenham will have to buckle” and sell because the 29-year-old striker wants to join Bayern. The German giants had been trying to play a game of diplomacy to persuade Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, who is unlikely to be impressed by the very public pursuit.

However, Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen insisted “everything Uli Hoeness said is correct” but warned they must not rush or panic and destroy any potential deal.

Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has held talks with Kane over his future as the England star has just one year left on his Spurs contract. Postecoglou, currently on the club’s tour Down Under, said: “I had a good chat with Harry.

"It was nothing earth-shattering as people are seeking. Just a good chat, introduced myself, and we spoke mainly about the club, where it's at and where he thinks can improve. It's not a specific vision for one person, it's about the group and we're perfectly aligned on that - we want to see a successful team this year.

"He's here and while he's here, he's totally committed to what we're doing, and that's the way I've seen things. No one has spoken to me from Munich. If other clubs want to talk about our contracted players, that's more of an issue for them than us.

"We've got nearly a month until the season starts, the transfer window's still open, so we'll see what transpires."

While Tottenham will have to fend off Bayern Munich, they are unlikely to have to do so with Paris Saint-Germain. The French club have been linked with a move for Kane in recent weeks, but The Telegraph reports that the England striker has no interest in moving to Paris.

Kane’s contract is due to expire on June 30, 2024, but Spurs chairman Levy is determined not to let him leave for anything less than £100m. Nevertheless, Bayern chief Hoeness remains confident of getting his man.

“He now has another opportunity to come to a top club in Europe,” he told Kicker. "What we all like is that he and his advisors – his father and brother – have always clearly stood by what they promised – until now. If it stays that way, that's okay. Of course [Daniel Levy] plays for time, he's a savvy and, I think, super professional, I appreciate him very much."
