Russia has dramatically scrapped a wartime deal allowing Ukraine to safely export grain, sparking fears of global food shortages.

It came after a fresh blow for Vladimir Putin when his £3billion bridge to Crimea was blown up for a second time. A couple died in the explosion as Moscow blamed Ukraine special forces.

Putin halted the accord today that allows Ukraine to ship grain to countries in Africa, the Middle East and Asia where hunger is a growing threat.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russia would suspend the Black Sea deal until its demands to get its food and fertiliser to the world are met.

Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, added: ”We are dealing with classic public techniques of the Russian Federation that no longer require significant reciprocal reactions.”

The pre-dawn Kerch Bridge attack again blocked a vital supplies link to Russia’s frontline troops.

It was carried out by two Ukrainian maritime drones, Russia’s National Anti-Terrorist Committee said.

Ukrainian Security Service spokesman Artem Degtyarenko said his agency will describe how the “bang” was organised after Kyiv wins the war.

The bridge was attacked in October, when a truck bomb blew up two sections and required months of repair.

The bridge, Europe’s longest, is part of Moscow’s claims on Crimea, which it invaded in 2014.

Russian media named the dead as trucker Alexei, 40, and Natalia Kulik, 36, who were going to Crimea for a holiday.

Their daughter, 14, is in hospital with chest and brain injuries. It came as Ukrainian forces are pressing a counteroffensive in several sections of the front line.

Andriy Yusov, a spokesman for Ukraine’s military intelligence department, said: “The peninsula is used by the Russians as a large logistical hub for moving forces and assets deep into the territory of Ukraine.

“Of course, any logistical problems are additional complications for the occupiers.”
