Police investigating the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old boy have released three people who were arrested on suspicion of murder.

West Midlands Police said the victim, from Birmingham, was pronounced dead around five miles away from the scene of Saturday’s stabbing in Stourbridge, after being driven to an address in the Rowley Regis area.

The teenager was stabbed in Stourbridge last night with police called to Coventry Street.

He was able to escape the attack and was driven to Orchard Close in Rowley Regis, where he was pronounced dead.

Two teens and a man in his 20s were subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder and were held in custody.

The force, which confirmed a car had been recovered, said in a statement: “Two teenage boys and a man in his 20s arrested last night have been released under investigation today.

“We continue to examine CCTV from Coventry Street, where it appears there was a confrontation before the 16-year-old from Bartley Green was stabbed.

“He was able to escape in a silver Toyota C-HR and was driven to Orchard Close in Rowley Regis, where an ambulance was called. Sadly nothing could be done to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Officers, who were called to the scene at about 7pm, have recovered the car for forensic examination.

Detective Inspector Laura Harrison, of the region’s homicide unit, said: “Although we are in the early stages of our investigation, we have made significant progress.

“However I would still like to hear from anyone who has any information about the events of yesterday evening. We are trying to understand the motive for this attack and the smallest piece of information could be crucial.

“We have specialist officers with the boy’s family, who have received terrible news and are understandably distraught. Our thoughts are with them.”
