Emmerdale star Liam Fox has landed a new role on the stage - as rumours fly he is set to quit the ITV soap for good.

The 53-year-old soap star has played Dan Spencer on the long-running tea time drama since 2011 and may be walking away from the ‘dales after 12 years of service.

Liam will soon be seen on stage at the St Helens Theatre Royal in Merseyside as part of the cast of an ambitious new pantomime performance of Aladdin.

The TV star will be taking on one of the main starring roles as villain Abanazar while the production claims to be 3D and will include an interactive flying carpet.

The casting news was announced via Instagram on Saturday with performance dates due to take place from Saturday 2 December though to Sunday 14 January 2024.

The theatre revealed: “Your wish is granted at St Helens biggest Christmas Pantomime yet…

“One of the most treasured family Pantos of all time, Aladdin will create Christmas memories that will last forever.

“Filled with hilarious comedy, wonderful songs, incredible dance, state of the art 3D technology and a story which will make even the evil Abanazar’s heart melt.”

The news has already been a hit with theatre and soap fans alike with many flooding the comments section of the Instagram post to express excitement.

One fan commented that they “can’t wait” and another remarked that the casting news was “fantastic”.

And one declared that Liam is a “Boss” for taking on the role of the show villain. Emmerdale fans have been fretting that Liam’s role as Dan may be coming to an end soon on the ITV soap as an explosive storyline plays out.

Viewers have been gripped by a plot line that could see Dan sent to jail for a potential murder charge after he punched his daughter Amelia’s stalker - leaving him in a coma.

Dan has already been warned that he would be tried for murder if the victim, named Lloyd, passed away from his injuries. Liam is hardly one to rest on his laurels, however, as he keeps himself busy even while working on Emmerdale.

The star hosts a weekend breakfast show on XO Radio.

Promoting the show via his Twitter, the actor joked: “When I’m not doing @emmerdale I’m doing this….have a catch up with the @foxyandthelamb breakfast show on @wearexoradio hope you like it folks…if you don’t just don’t listen again.”
