We’ve all wondered what it would be like to own a lake before - haven’t we? Well now, after a 200-year-old reservoir tucked away in the Welsh Margam mountain has gone up for sale, we can.

Only accessible by a 900 metre long public footpath, the magical Brombil reservoir had a moment of fame on TikTok as viewers admired its stunning beauty through their screens. Crystal blue water and welcoming woodland define the picturesque scene, which is now up for grabs for an incredible £75,000 on Rightmove - a third of the average cost of a home in that area.

With visitors flocking to the reservoir during lockdown - perhaps owing to its TikTok fame - there were major parking problems for residents in the area.

This became such a problem that Neath Port Talbot Council had to request people to stop visiting the reservoir - with people even fined when they did show up. It’s hard to blame the rulebreakers.

With views of the Gower peninsula and the forest which surrounds it, and with a large abundance of wildlife, the area is a perfect piece of escapism from the hustle and bustle of cities and towns.

Untouched footpaths provide plenty of opportunities for keen walkers, and the lockdown period left many in need of a beautiful getaway in the Welsh countryside. The incredible opportunity to buy the reservoir has been advertised by estate agents Watts & Morgan, who say it is perfect for nature enthusiasts or those who enjoy ecology.

Brombil reservoir is around 3.318 acres and the pond around 1.105 acres. Due to its remote setting, it can only be accessed by a public pathway. Hopefully, however, whoever picks it up will keep it open to the public - and let us all revel in its beauty. The full instructions of how to find the reservoir are as follows:

Coming westbound on the M4 you can take exit 38 and then take the second exit at the roundabout. Head straight over the next two roundabouts towards Margam Village. Once you reach the Twelve Nights pub on your left, turn right on to Ty Fry Road. You will then take a second right and follow the road underneath the motorway bridge. Follow the road for 400m before you come across a footpath - you will then need to park your car before walking along the path to the reservoir. You can find more information here.’
