Bayern Munich are eyeing up a move for Manchester City forward Julian Alvaraz as an alternative if they fail to sign Tottenham's Harry Kane this summer.

Kane is Bayern's priority transfer target but there is a growing feeling that the England international could stay at Spurs beyond the end of the window. Bayern chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen met with Daniel Levy for breakfast in London on Thursday as Kane's future was once again put into question.

But Thomas Tuchel's side are looking elsewhere in case Kane decides to stay in north London. According to Sky Sports, the German giants have expressed an interest in Alvarez, with a view to take the Argentine on loan until the end of the season and wait for Kane's contract to expire next summer.

Alvarez, 23, scored 17 times in 49 appearances for City last term but was used as second fiddle behind Erling Haaland in the central striker berth. The ex-River Plate star was often used in the no.10 role but also played out wide and as a replacement to Haaland when required.

Pep Guardiola could be reluctant to let Alvarez go considering the impact he has made in a City shirt since making his debut last August. He scored some crucial goals in 2022/23, including the winner against Fulham and a brace in the 6-0 win over Burnley towards the end of last season as City went on to claim the treble.

Alongside his success for City, Alvarez also won the World Cup with Argentina. He netted four times at the tournament, striking twice and grabbing one assist in the 3-0 semi-final victory against Croatia as the forward created history alongside his teammates.

There is no surprise why Bayern are looking at Alvarez, but he isn't the only Kane alternative they have on their agenda. GOAL report that the Bundesliga champions are keen on signing Juventus ' Dusan Vlahovic and Werder Bremen forward Niclas Fullkrug, too, as they try and beef up their attacking options.

Bayern boss Tuchel was asked about their striker search on Saturday and gave a brief but honest answer. He said: "I don't make any comments about players who are not under contract with us.

"That also applies to this one player [Kane]. We're ready to give it our all when we're very confident in a player If nothing happens then we trust the players we have."

As for Bayern's pursuit of Kane, he returned to training with Tottenham on Wednesday as he met new boss Ange Postecoglou for showdown talks over his future. Although Bayern met with Levy earlier in the week, it is thought that there was no breakthrough for Kane, who scored 30 Premier League goals last term.

Bayern are currently preparing for a pre-season fixture against Rottach-Egern on Tuesday. They have one senior recognised centre forward in their squad at the moment in Erik Maxim Chupo Moting and haven't yet replaced Robert Lewandowski after he left to join Barcelona a year ago.
