When a king makes a request it is usually beholden on members of his team to fulfil his wish - but he earlier quashed one rumour involving the throne in the bathroom.

It had been suggested the royal demanded his entourage travel with all his usual comforts when travelling around the world meeting members of the public. Tom Bower's book Rebel Prince, written before Charles ascended the throne, once bizarrely claimed among the requests to be followed was for the future monarch’s own toilet seat to be taken on tour.

When it was put to the then prince, the heir quickly dismissed the rumour and turned airwaves blue in Australia as he made his answer.

Responding to a reporter at the meet and greet ahead of the Commonwealth Games in 2018, the heir to the throne said "My own what?", before adding: "Oh don't believe that c**p."

Julian Payne, the then communications director, tweeted afterwards: “The Prince and The Duchess’s tour of Australia and Vanuatu begins: 30 engagements, 7 days, 1 Commonwealth Games, 0 personal loo seats.”

The biography had detailed claims of an extraordinary life of extravagance and wealth, describing the future king as petulant, spoiled, self-indulgent and self-pitying.

Other claims included royal staff hauling Charles and "complete bedrooms" - including his orthopaedic bed, own linen, premium loo roll, two paintings of the Scottish Highlands and the toilet seat - when he visited a pal's home.

It was also said the Prince of Wales' bedroom furniture and a personal supply of organic food were delivered a day before he visited to replace the existing fittings in the guest rooms.

The biography also claimed his 124 staff - most of them paid for by taxpayers - included four valets who would help him change his clothes up to five times a day.
