It has been revealed that the suspect arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the deaths of three women in the Gilgo Beach murders attended the same high school as Hollywood movie star Alec Baldwin.

The Gilgo Beach murders were a series of unsolved murders from the Long Island area, in which human remains were uncovered in 2010.

Ten victims are officially linked to the killings, carried out by a serial killer given the nicknames the Long Island Serial Killer, LISK, Gilgo Beach killer, Manorville Butcher and Craigslist Ripper.

And authorities have now confirmed that 59-year-old Rex Heuermann, an architect, has been charged with the murder of three of the ten victims, who have been named as Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman and Amber Costello. Heuermann has pleaded not guilty to all counts of murder.

The news has rocked the nation as well as those in the community he grew up in. In fact, it has been revealed that Rex Heuermann attended the same school as Alec Baldwin, 65.

While he graduated years after Alec, the star's brother Bobby was noticeably shocked as he took to social media to state he was a classmate of Rex at Alfred G. Berner High School in Massapequa.

In a tweet, he wrote: "Woke up this morning to learn that the Gilgo Beach serial killer suspect was my high school classmate Rex Heuermann...

"Married, two kids, architect. 'Average guy… quiet, family man.' Mind-boggling… Massapequa is in shock."

While Rex has been charged with three murders, court documents state that he is the "prime suspect" in the death of a fourth victim, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, who was linked to the other three victims.

During his arrest, a huge police presence was seen at his home in Massapequa Park.

Heuermann founded the architectural business RH Consultants & Associates, Inc. According to the firm's website, Heuermann's "clients include Catholic Charities, NYC-DEP Sewerage Treatment and American Airlines and other major tenants at the JFK International Airport."

In an interview posted to the YouTube channel Bonjour Realty, Heuermann said he was "born and raised on Long Island" and described himself as a "troubleshooter".

Law enforcement sources told DailyMail they tracked him down by tracing phone calls made from burner phones to the victims' cell phones over 10 years ago. The source added that "good, old fashioned police work" cracked the case.

The location of phone calls matched the addresses of Heuermann's home and office. It's unclear which specific piece of evidence led to his arrest.
