BBC presenter Peter Levy was left in stitches during his segment on Look North as viewers sent in their ‘oldest house appliances’ that they still had knocking about – one of which turned very raunchy.

The veteran newsreader went pink as he read out the hilarious message and couldn’t stop himself from cracking up alongside the weather-caster Paul Hudson.

Peter, 67, shared the funny moment on social media with his followers in case anyone had missed it at the time.

He captioned the video: “We showed some of your old appliances on the programme tonight, thank you! It started so well and then went downhill…”

Looking dapper in a dark blue suit and pale tie, Peter said he had asked viewers to send in details and photos of the oldest appliances that they had around the house.

Revealing the request had got a great response from viewers, he went on to share a few of the antique appliances that were still going strong – including a microwave bought in 1983 and a 30-year-old tumble-dryer that is still used but needs tape to keep it shut.

However, it was Mal’s description of an ancient vacuum cleaner that really tickled Peter and Paul.

Peter read out: “‘When we married in 1971, my grandmother gave us an Electrolux vacuum cleaner, which she says was older than my mother who was born in 1929.

“‘Near enough 100 years old!‘ Apparently, Mal goes on to say: ‘It still works, and is handy as it blows as well as sucks’.”

Laughing uproariously, Peter struggled to compose himself as he clapped his hands together and joked it was ‘dangerous’ before thanking the viewer for the hilarious submission.

Weather-caster Paul appeared equally flustered as he told his colleague: “I don’t know what to say to that!”

Peter's Twitter followers loved the hilarious moment and rushed to shower himself and Paul with compliments.

One person wrote: “It made me laugh out loud! Perhaps it could be shown when the news is depressing, which is most days.“

“Had to pause and rewind the banter between @peter_levy and @Hudsonweather tonight. It could have been so much worse too. Brilliant to have giggles amongst the usual sombre news,“ added another viewer.

While someone else gushed: “We were chuckling with you!“
