Easy way to get £5 voucher to spend in H&M, John Lewis, River Island and more

Did you know you can get money off at plenty of high street stores - just by donating your old clothes?

Not only is it great money-saving, but you’re also helping the planet - and clearing out your wardrobe.

Some of the retailers that run donation schemes include H&M, New Look, Schuh, River Island and Marks and Spencer.

In some cases, you can get a £5 voucher or 15% off. Here is everything you need to know.

Another way to make the most of unwanted clothes is to sell them online or donate to a charity shop.

H&M - £5 voucher

H&M shoppers can get a £5 voucher if they recycle a bag of unwanted clothes.

It doesn't have to be H&M products either, or clothes for that matter - any sort of textiles can be donated, as the fabric can be recycled.

The voucher can only be used against a future transaction worth at least £25.

Marks and Spencer/Oxfam - £5 voucher

If you donate items to Oxfam, you can get a £5 voucher to spend at M&S.

One item must have originally been purchased from M&S, and you can only use the voucher in the same month against a £35 spend on clothing, home or beauty products.

There are other ways to get money back at M&S.

If you're a member of the Sparks loyalty scheme, you can get a free treat by scanning a QR code when you make a donation in stores.

You can also trade in your old M&S school uniform and receive 20% off selected kids’ clothing.

John Lewis - £5 voucher

John Lewis shoppers who are signed up to the free My John Lewis loyalty scheme can get a £5 voucher when they donate five or more items of pre-loved clothing.

You need to be making a new purchase in store when donating the clothes.

The type of clothing accepted includes: Clean shirts, T-shirts, jumpers, cardigans, jackets, coats, shorts, trousers, jeans, childrenswear, dresses, jumpsuits, skirts and school uniforms.

John Lewis won't accept: Underwear, lingerie, socks, tights, accessories, footwear, handbags, swimwear, baby vests, baby grows, towels, bedding and nightwear.

The items don't have to originally have been from John Lewis.

The £5 voucher can be used towards another purchase of at least £20 on menswear, womenswear and childrenswear.

River Island - £5 voucher

If you send at least three items to Reskinned - this is free to do, as they provide a postage label - you’ll get a £5 voucher to use at River Island.

The voucher is only valid for one month and can only be spent on purchases above £40.

New Look - 15% off

Drop off a bag of pre-loved clothes to a participating hospice shop and you'll get 15% off your next shop at New Look.

There are over 200 hospice shops participating - see list here - and to get your voucher, you need to scan a QR code at the store counter.

There doesn't appear to be a minimum spend limit but the items you purchase need to be full-priced, so not in the sale or already discounted.

Schuh - £5 voucher

For every pair of shoes you donate to Schuh, you'll get a £5 voucher to spend in stores.

The shoes don't have to have been purchased from Schuh.

When you get the voucher, it has to be redeemed against a £25 spend.
