Lee Evans looked in good spirits as he made an incredibly rare public appearance on Tuesday.

The retired comedian, 59, stepped out in London with wife Heather Nudds to enjoy a spot of dinner at a swanky restaurant.

Lee, who quit showbiz and retired in 2014, delighted excited onlookers as he waved at those passing him by as he strolled through Covent Garden.

The There's Something About Mary actor sported a grey suit and baby blue shirt for the outing, and kept a low profile with a pair of sunglasses and baseball cap.

Lee added a stylish touch to his ensemble on Tuesday – sporting a pocket square the same colour as the under-layer in his jacket and trendy trainers. His wife Heather looked chic as she donned a cream-coloured blazer and white and brown patterned maxi dress which featured a slit up the side.

The comedian even gave a smile, wave and a thumbs up as he was snapped by photographers – showing he is enjoying his retirement.

Lee was last seen in public in 2021 during a solo bike ride in Essex. The Mousehunt actor announced his retirement from comedy and acting in 2014 during an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show. He explained his decision was motivated by the fact he wanted to spend more time with his family.

When Jonathan asked how long the "remarkable force of comedy" planned to carry on in his job, Lee responded: "I am frigging knackered. This is it. Finished. This is the end. I am not doing anything."

He also credited his retirement to the death of manager Addison Creswell, who passed away from a heart attack in 2013.

Lee continued to explain on the ITV show: "All I have ever done is work and Addison always used to put his arm around me and say, 'Don’t worry, I will look after you. It is okay'. My dad always said to me, 'You have got to wor'’ so I constantly worked and did comedy tours.

"I think I have ignored for far too long my missus, and I want to spend a lot more time with her. I am going to go and see my wife, be home and say 'I’m yours'." He then joked: "And I know what'll happen, in a week it'll be, 'Get out!'"

Lee and his wife Heather now live a relatively quiet life in Billericay, Essex. The pair met as teenagers and by the time they were both 22, they decided to tie the knot. They married on 22 September 1984 and welcomed daughter Mollie into the world in 1993.

Since announcing his retirement, Lee has kept a low profile but has stepped out and made a few rare appearances at celebrity events over the years. In 2017, the legendary funnyman delighted fans and stars alike as he attended the premiere of Kenny in Liverpool. He also appeared in a charity production of Harold Pinter's Wither Would You Go alongside comedian Jack Whitehall.
