Boris Becker’s estranged wife and a former fiancé have served up the inside story of his rollercoaster life, saying he needs fame “like a drug”.

They have spoken in a new ITV series about the tennis star who ended up in jail just four miles from the scene of his greatest triumph – winning Wimbledon at 17 in 1985.

The German married model Barbara Feltus in 1993 and they had two children. They divorced in 2001 shortly after Becker had sex with a waitress at a London restaurant, which resulted in the birth of a girl.

Caroline Rocher, a dancer who met Becker in New York in 2002, said: “The next time we saw each other was a month later... He slept on the couch. He was a gentleman.”

The relationship ended after three years. Caroline said: “It was devastating.” Alessandra Meyer-Wölden got engaged to Becker in 2008. She said: “I thought maybe this is... the happy ending.

“But I had no idea what came with it – his personal life was a mess.”

The pair soon split in acrimonious circumstances. Becker then married old flame Lilly Kerssenberg in 2009.

The actress fears he was unfaithful. Lilly says: “The beginning of our relationship was bliss. Then stuff happens. I had my suspicions.” They separated in 2018, a year after Becker was made bankrupt.

He was jailed last year for hiding £2.5million of assets and loans to avoid paying debts. He was freed in December after eight months, serving time in Wandsworth jail in South West London.

Becker, 55, was deported and will not be allowed to return until October 2024.

Estranged wife Lilly said: “The judge [said Boris] showed... this arrogance. What [she] said about him, she knew in about two weeks. It took me 13 years.

“When you meet Boris, he is amazingly charming. He was born to be this superstar. He has lived his life of fame at such a high level. It’s like a drug.”

Boris Becker: The Rise & Fall is released on ITVX today.
