Loved-up couples often use Valentine's Day as an excuse to treat themselves to a romantic date night, sometimes even a weekend away.

Regan Ellis and her partner were no different, planning a night out locally with dinner and a short stay in a hotel but when they arrived their getaway turned into a nightmare.

They claim their room was an "absolute dump", covered in odd stains and left over bags of suspicious white powder - there was even the imprint of a face left on the window.

When Regan went to complain, she says she was told there was no guarantee of the room being cleaned and there were no other rooms available, leaving them stranded.

The 22-year-old told The Mirror: "I've honestly never seen anything like it. I don't know what they were doing in there, but it was an absolute dump."

She and her partner had booked the Premier Inn in Milton Keynes so they didn't have to drive home after their meal, "just to make life a little bit easier." The room cost them £100 per night so they weren't expecting much but nothing could have prepared them for the scene they walked into.

"There were bedsheets everywhere" which Regan noticed immediately as they walked in, on closer inspection she saw "there were stains all over the bed".

In her viral TikTok, Regan said she thought they had walked into the wrong room but confirmed that they were in the correct room on the top floor, having paid for a more expensive Premier Plus package.

She added: "There was a face print in the window, so I don't know what that was going on to get a face print against the window."

Along with this, Regan claims, was around 15 cans of energy drink Monster, towels strewn into the bath, more stains in the bath and "weird gunk" in the sink.

Most concerningly, there were "bags of white powder" on the desk, to which Regan responded: "I'm not going to assume but I think we know what it probably was."

"It was awful" she concluded.

Regan went to reception to see what could be done, only to be told there were no cleaners available - or alternative rooms to stay in. "I said even if you just change the bedsheets and empty the bins," she added. "They said 'we'll send someone up but we can't guarantee it'll be cleaned'."

With a looming dinner reservation, she waited around fifteen minutes to speak to a manager who she claims then insinuated that the couple may have messed up the room "just to get a freebie".

The pair missed their dinner reservation while waiting for the room to be sorted, losing money on a reservation deposit. Reagan says that staff did eventually "take everything out" of the room but didn't empty bins, although, bedding and towels were swapped.

Determined to make the most of their romantic evening, the couple went up to the room to get ready - claiming staff then "let themselves back into the room" while they changed.

"They didn't end up hoovering and they just left it [in the room] so I think that was for me to do," Regan laughed. "Took the mysterious bags too, but didn't wipe the windows - so there was still someone else's face printed there."

In the end, the couple were offered a complimentary breakfast, despite the fact breakfast was already included in their package. Regan says they were then offered some bottles of still water as an apology, which she turned down, saying "if I wanted still water, there's a tap".

After the fiasco, Regan and her partner went out for dinner at around quarter to 10, although she said by that point they weren't hungry and the whole night was "completely ruined" as there was "a bit of an atmosphere".

To add insult to injury, she claims there was nothing in the room for tea or coffee in the morning, which had been promised. The desk then said they were unable to refund the room, despite the problems.

Eventually, the couple did get a refund and an apology from Premier Inn as well as a voucher for money off their next stay.

"They said they'd send a leisure voucher and I asked 'like a dinner voucher or something like that'," Regan explained. "And they said 'Oh, it's just a coupon off your next stay with us'. I don't really know if I want to stay with [them] again.

"Not a free stay, just money off - I've still got to spend money with them."

Regan would stay with Premier Inn again, but not that particular branch "because of their attitudes", she added: "I just think it could have been handled a little bit differently."

A spokeswoman for Premier Inn told The Mirror: "We welcome four million guests to our sites every month and unfortunately on rare occasions, such as this one issues can arise. In this case, the guest was mistakenly allocated a room which had not been cleaned after the exit of another guest."

"At no point did any team members enter the room whilst the guests were inside. Whilst the room was being cleaned at one point the guest came in but subsequently left."

"The room was by no means 'trashed' it was simply a mistaken room allocation. On learning of the error, the hotel cleaned the room and offered complimentary breakfasts the following morning. The room was refunded and the guest was also give a gift voucher, which can be used towards a stay at Premier Inn or at any of our restaurants.

"We look forward to welcoming Regan again soon."

Regan maintains that "no explanation was given" when she complained about the room and there was "no mention of it being a mistaken room allocation".

At the time, she was told that "no rooms were available at that hotel" and they "didn't know" if the room she was given would be cleaned.
