Meghan Markle could be heading into politics, thinks Princess Diana's former butler, Paul Burrell.

He shared in an interview with Slingo: "Don't underestimate Meghan, she's ambitious. And what if she became Governor of California and lords it over Hollywood."

He continued: "[Harry and Meghan] could become a power couple. It's not so far-fetched because they have to keep going on, they have to keep reinventing themselves because if they don't, that brand is going to disappear, the Sussex brand will disappear.

"The King has been very kind to Harry and Meghan because he loves Harry. He's his son and he hasn't taken their titles away. I mean, there are many people that would say their titles should be stripped from them because they're no longer working Royals.

"I don't think the King has an appetite for that because that's negative and he's attacking them back and I don't think the King wants to light the touch paper and watch the fireworks go off."

Burrell cited other famous actors who have ventured into Governorship - like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Ronald Raegan.

He said he actually encourages them to "go and do some public service", emphasising that "it's time." He believes that they have a chance to truly leave a legacy for Diana's name. Plus, Burrell believes that it may help win the public over again.

Burrell said that when talking to Americans, he's found that they're rather tired of Meghan and Harry's story. In fact, a study for Newsweek found that the overall approval for both of them had dropped significantly in 2023. Burrell believes that the couple have been unaware of this disapproval and that "somebody's had the wool pulled over their eyes".

Now, a new endeavour into politics could be an effort to reinvent themselves. Burrell is worried that if they don't, "the Sussex brand will disappear".

This speculation comes after the collapse of Meghan's Spotify deal. Burrell believes that both Harry and Meghan "misunderstood what was expected of them." In the Spotify and Netflix deals, they were selling their Royal story. However, that story has been told and sold. Now, they'll need a new pitch if they want to stay relevant.

Burrell did concede: "But I do think there's a world out there that is still fascinated by it, by them."

As another option, Burrell thinks that Meghan could also go the Victoria Beckham route, veering into beauty and fashion. In fact, he sees that path as an opportunity for Meghan to "grown tentacles in different areas".

He said: "Why wouldn't someone want to take a risk with that and create something for Meghan then that would give her a foothold and a platform to launch herself into fashion?"
