Steve Kerr provided a glowing assessment of Draymond Green after he signed a new contract with the Golden State Warriors.

After the 33-year-old opted out of his one-year player option deal, the veteran’s future was unclear. The franchise was keen to re-sign the four-time All-Star and they got their man after he signed a 4-year, $100 million contract.

While speaking at a Team USA briefing on Friday, Kerr was delighted to have one of his key players remain in the ranks. “We’re really excited to have Draymond back,” he said. ”He’s been such a huge part of this decade run and, as he showed this past year, he still has plenty left in the tank.

“Given that he plays so well with Steph [Curry] and Klay [Thompson], it was really a no-brainer to try to bring him back. And so I’m glad that it all checked out and it all worked out."

Green’s basketball IQ, defensive versatility, and leadership skills have been integral to the four NBA championships the Warriors have won since Kerr began coaching the team. The coach previously stated that his Warriors are not a championship-contending team without Green on the team and therefore a priority to secure his future at the Chase Center was vital.

After the Warriors were eliminated from the NBA playoffs against the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference semifinals, Green maintained his desire to remain with the franchise. "I've been here 11 years, you don't just up and change that," Green told Andscape. "The guys that I started with are still here. Of course, I'd love to be here, but I do understand that this is a business.'"

The Warriors were confident they'd be able to find a new deal for Green and according to new general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr., keeping him paired with Curry was extremely important. "What he means in terms of this organization and this team, winning at the highest level, we feel like we have to have him," Dunleavy said at his introductory news conference on June 19.

Another major trade this offseason saw the Warriors acquire Chris Paul after they chose to trade Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards. Addressing the trades, Curry said: “Just [want to] say JP how much I appreciated the four years brother, you’re champion,” Curry said in the video.

“You grew up right in front of everybody’s face. That first year, it was rough with a lot of injuries, and trying to find your way, to going to the G-League and coming back. Helping us finish 15–5 that second year, us winning a championship your third year and fighting to the end this past year.

"I can’t wait to see you shine in your own situation. CP, can’t wait to rock with you brother. It’s gone be different with us on the same side. Let’s get it, let’s get it!”
