Saving Private Ryan actor Tom Sizemore is in a critical condition in hospital after suffering a brain aneurysm.

The Hollywood star, 61, was rushed to hospital in Los Angeles after being found in his home and emergency services were called.

Tom's manager Charles Lago confirmed that he had fallen unconscious at around 2 am on Saturday and someone called 911.

Actor Tom is now listed as being in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital.

Charles told FOX News: "He is in the hospital. His family is aware of the situation and are hoping for the best. It is too early to know about a recovery situation as he is in critical condition under observation."

Tom has been a huge star in movies spanning several decades with some of his best-known work including Natural Born Killers, Black Hawk Down, Born On The Fourth Of July, and Heat.

His most recent project sees him play a police detective for the science fiction movie Impuratus, with his character becoming a believer in the supernatural after he witnesses the deathbed confession of a Civil War veteran.

He told Age Of The Nerd: "I enjoyed the script. It is a terrific leading part. It was a period piece, which was interesting, and I really like the people that were involved."

Tom also spoke about being blown away by the movie when he saw an "early cut" of it and that he "can't wait to see the final version with the music all in."

He added: "The quality was astounding, the acting (including some of mine, of course), but seriously everyone was outstanding and the photography superb."

Tom also spoke about his career spanning 30 years in the chat, claiming he owed his success to his "passion for the work."

He said: "I've always loved movies. That's why I started doing this, and after all these years I still adore movies. I think it's just about just having a real passion for stories and my nascent curiosity."

Despite his overwhelming success, Tom's career hasn't been without its downsides in his personal life.

The star has had issues including a battle with drug addiction and several instances of getting in trouble with legal authorities.

He has previously been arrested for allegations of domestic violence, possession of a controlled substance, and driving under the influence.
