Sex abuse survivors slammed TV producers tonight for planning a major documentary on pop paedophile Gary Glitter.

The former pop star left jail this month after serving half his 16-year sentence for defiling kids.

Sammy Woodhouse, a survivor of child sex exploitation who has waived her right to anonymity, slammed ITN for giving a platform to a paedophile that could bring back horrific memories.

She said: “This documentary will be too triggering for many [survivors] to watch, and many will feel that a platform shouldn’t be given to a paedophile.”

The disgraced former pop star, 78, left prison this month after serving half of his term for attempted rape, four counts of indecent assault and one of sex with a girl under 13.

He is in a bail hostel where angry locals have protested outside, shouting: “Watch out, Glitter’s about”.

The sex beast, real name Paul Gadd, is expected to move to a £2million flat he owns in London.

Now ITN Productions is seeking contributors for a hard-hitting series charting his rise to fame and sickening fall from grace.

It is understood that the documentary has been pitched to Netflix, which last year released both Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story and Conversation with a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes.

A source said: “ITN are working on a series which will document Glitter’s success as a glam rock star in the 1970s and how he was exposed decades later for using his fame to prey on young girls.

“It is an extraordinary story, which contributors are being assured will be handled with sensitivity.

“But it is still likely to prove controversial. There is no doubt that the final product will contain material which some viewers will find extremely disturbing.”

Glitter was at the height of his fame when he targeted vulnerable victims – who thought no one would believe their claims over a celebrity.

He attacked two girls, aged 12 and 13, after inviting them backstage to his dressing room and isolating them from their mothers.

His third victim was less than 10 years old when he crept into her bed and tried to rape her in 1975.

The truth only came to light nearly 40 years later when Glitter became the first person arrested under Operation Yewtree – the investigation launched by the Metropolitan Police in the wake of the Jimmy Savile scandal.

ITN Productions, which recently produced Prince Harry’s bombshell interview with Tom Bradby, supply content to streaming giants Netflix and Amazon, as well as the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5.

Its previous crime documentaries include The Confession for Amazon Prime and The Thief, His Wife and A Canoe: The Real Story for ITV.
