Madonna has reportedly been forced to drastically scale back her upcoming world tour after finding it a "logistical nightmare" to try and reschedule the shows.

The Queen of Pop, 64, has had to postpone her Celebration Tour after being intubated while in an intensive care unit following a severe bacterial infection.

She was due to begin her run of shows in Canada later this month and was set to play 45 cities in total.

However, plans for the seven-month-long tour are thought to have been changed as she recovers in her New York City home.

Sources have said that plans are being considered to cut a number of shows, if the tour goes ahead.

One source said: "In the cold light of day, considering what Madonna has just been through, and considering she is 64, was it really sensible to book so many tour dates in the first place?

"This schedule would be gruelling for even the youngest and fittest of artists.

"More than 70 gigs across the world is extreme. Madonna and her team are going to have to consider cutting back on the schedule."

Speaking to the Daily Mail, a tour manager added it would be a "logistical nightmare" to re-plan the tour.

They said it would be difficult for Madonna and her team to find venues available for any rescheduled dates.

Madonna's work schedule is said to have contributed to the illness, with the singer "constantly pushing herself" in recent weeks.

Guy Oseary, Madonna's manager, released a statement confirming her health woes and adding that she would have to take a break from her busy schedule.

The statement read: "On Saturday June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several-day stay in the ICU (intensive care unit).

"Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected.

"At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour."

It continued: "We will share more details with you soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows."
