Destiny 2 bans – check if you've been banned and launch an appeal
Bungie has issued a number of bans to Destiny 2 players who were cheating the system, however, there's a chance that some accounts could've been wrongfully banned. Luckily, there's a way to appeal your ban.
Like any online-focused game, Destiny 2 doesn't take too kindly to cheaters. By extension, Bungie is more than ready to throw out a ban to players found breaking the rules, as was proven earlier this week where the company issued a wave of bans to players for cheating (before taking to Twitter to confirm the move).
But what happens if your account is banned? How do you figure out if you have been banned? How do you even get banned in Destiny 2? And if you do get banned, can you get unbanned? Don't worry, we have all the answers you need.
How to check if you've been banned in Destiny 2
When you boot up Destiny 2, you'll be given a message referencing an account or device ban, it means you've been banned permanently from playing any of the activities mentioned on the message. Bungie has laid out the details of the ban on the Destiny 2 website, these details are as follows:
- The ban message may indicate which activities are impacted and whether the ban is at the account or device level.
- Players who receive an Account Ban will no longer be able to play the banned Destiny activities on that account.
- Players who receive a Device Ban will no longer be able to play Destiny activities on that hardware.
- No account will be able to participate in activities in Destiny on a banned device, regardless of the individual account ban status.
- Players that purchase a used console or PC that has previously been banned will not be able to connect to Destiny using that console or PC.
However, Destiny 2 also has restrictions which limit your access to the game or specific activities for a timed period, similarly to the bans, Bungie has laid out details on account restrictions, these are as follows:

- The restriction message may indicate which activities are impacted, the duration of the restriction, and whether the restriction is at the account or device level.
- Players who receive an Account Restriction may resume participation in the restricted Destiny activities once the restriction has ended.
- Players who receive a Device Restriction will be unable to play the restricted Destiny activities on that hardware until the restriction has ended.
You'll also be able to be banned by staying in a fireteam with a cheating player, so if you suspect someone on your team is cheating, it's better to leave than risk a ban.
How do you get banned in Destiny 2
Bungie have the full details of how you can get banned on the Destiny 2 website, but the full list of offences which can get you restricted or banned are as follows:
Frequent Quitting or Removal
Third-Party PC Applications
Abuse of External Accessibility Tools
Win Trading
Account Recoveries
Code of Conduct or License Agreement Violation
Restricted Access to Gear, Items, and Content
These are all listed under both the sections on bans and restrictions, so presumably you'll be restricted first and banned for repeat offenses.

The section on restrictions also has Poor Connection Quality listed as a possible reason for restrictions, saying "Bungie will issue restrictions to accounts that have consistent unstable connections when playing Destiny, as this negatively impacts other players".
How to appeal a ban in Destiny 2
Bungie has a dedicated appeals form for Destiny 2 bans on it's website. While there are no guarantees a ban or restriction will be lifted, you'll have a far better chance getting it overturned by being honest about your ban and providing sufficient evidence that you haven't been breaking the Destiny 2 code of conduct.
If you have actually been cheating it's very unlikely your ban will be overturned (and that's on you to be fair) but there's no harm in trying your luck!
