You’re at a wedding, a song starts and suddenly you’re boogying with Great Aunt Mavis... and it turns out Dancing Queen is the most likely culprit.

A list of the 30 greatest floor-fillers put ABBA’s 1976 hit at the top of the charts.

Dexys Midnight Runners’ 1982 tune Come On Eileen and Whitney Houston’s 1987 smash I Wanna Dance with Somebody were second and third. Legend Tiny Turner, who died last month, was the only artist to feature twice on the list, with Proud Mary and Simply the Best.

And a groovy 84% of us admit we love a boogie, with more than half claiming that the best place is in the car, followed by in the kitchen, at a gig and in a club.

Almost half of those polled reckon they are a great dancer, breaking out the moves an average of eight times a week. Four in 10 describe their style as “dad dancing”, 14% admit they just shuffle, and nearly one in 10 confess they are all arms and no legs.
