Johnny Depp took to Instagram for the first time in over seven months to pay tribute to his late pal Jeff Beck.

While his Instagram has included rare joint posts with brands such as Dior recently, it's the first time Johnny has posted his own personal message in a long time as he celebrated the musician's birthday.

Jeff died at the age of 78 on January 10 this year of a bacterial meningitis infection.

And close pal Johnny, 60, shared a throwback snap of the pair to mark what would have been Jeff's 79th birthday this weekend.

The image saw the pair getting to work on a car together as they got under the bonnet. Johnny captioned the post: "Happy birthday my dearest brother Jeff. You are with me, always. You are everything!!!

The post was quickly appreciated by a number of Johnny's Instagram pals, including Patti Smith who wrote: "We salute both you and Jeff every night on the road. Brothers go where we go. Bolero and Nine with all our love."

Another fan commented: "I so appreciate you & loved the music you and Jeff made together. He was a consummate guitarist & musician. You worked so well together, giving you both - and your many fans - much joy!

"Carry on, now. We all have memories to cherish. Your dear friend is with you."

And a third added: "Happy heavenly birthday JB."

Earlier this month, Johnny revealed he was planning to donate $1million (£795,000) to charity after his ex-wife Amber Heard finally paid the settlement from their explosive defamation trial.

The long-running legal battle ended back in December, with the jury returning a verdict in Johnny's favour. Amber's insurance company was ordered to pay the huge amount of money to Johnny.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor had sued his ex-wife over an article she wrote for The Washington Post in 2018 about her experiences as a survivor of domestic abuse.

Lawyers for Johnny claim the writing accused him of being an abuser, although he wasn't named in the piece.

And now he's said he will share the money he has received to a number of charities, explaining it will be "split up evenly five different ways".

A source close to Johnny confirmed to The Mirror that they include "aiding sick children with life-threatening illnesses and providing housing for historically disenfranchised communities."
