Maya Hawke has said that her father Ethan Hawke gave her a "really hard time" when she got caught lying about losing her virginity, though she said he respected his response to the situation.

The actor, 24 - who is best known for playing Robin Buckley on Stranger Things - mentioned her famous parents Ethan, 52, and Uma Thurman, 53, in an interview this week.

It was whilst appearing as a guest on a recent episode of Watch What Happens Live, where she was asked about her life by the Bravo talk show's host Andy Cohen, 55.

During one segment on the late-night show, Andy asked his guest: "What's the worst trouble you got in as a teen?" The question prompted her to mention one of her parents.

Maya responded to the question: "Oh, I lied about where I ... I said I was going to therapy and I really went to lose my virginity. I can't believe I just said that but that is true."

She continued by saying that her father - who has appeared in films like Dead Poets Society (1989) and Training Day (2002) in his career - was "very, very upset" at the time.

Talk show host Andy suggested that Ethan had only known that she hadn't attended the therapy session though, not where she had actually been. Maya seemingly agreed.

She continued: "He gave me a really hard time. He went 'where were you? where did you go?'. And I said 'how am I supposed to have secrets if I'm not allowed to tell lies?'."

Her remark seemed to impress Andy and fellow guest Bryan Cranston, 67. Andy said: "Wow, that is such a good line". Bryan teased: "Put that on a bumper sticker right now".

Andy added: "I would think, knowing your father, that he actually respected that." Maya responded to the host: "He did. He was like 'f*** this kid'. He was like 'oh that's good'."

It wasn't just her father who was mentioned on Watch What Happens Live, as Maya also mentioned her mother Uma - who's acting credits include Pulp Fiction (1994).

During the show, Andy asked the guest: "Who was the most famous person you ever had in your home growing up?" Maya replied: "That's a big one. Uh ... my mother [Uma]".

Maya has followed in her parents footsteps by becoming an actor. Her credits include the BBC's Little Women in 2017, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019) and Stranger Things.
