Lorraine shows love for trans community after Elliot Page's moving confession
Lorraine Kelly showed her support for the trans community during a chat with Elliot Page this morning.
The Scottish TV presenter, 63, mused why some people are against trans and non-binary people being able to live authentically as the Hollywood actor recalled his journey to becoming comfortable with his gender identify.
Elliot, who reintroduced himself as a trans man in December 2020, appeared on Lorraine's self-titled ITV show today to promote their moving new memoir, Page Boy.
The Oscar-nominated actor, 36, heaped praise on his mother for learning more about the LGBTQ+ community since he came out as a trans man, but admitted their relationship went through some testing times previously.
Previously, Elliot admitted mum Martha Phillpotts "pushed him away" in a misguided attempt to protect her son from "the scary things in the world."

"It’s been a journey, but people do grow and change and educate themselves and my mother’s done that. I’m so lucky to have her."
Elliot continued to address the toxic culture certain groups have created for trans people and shared how they handle bigoted comments and hateful attacks on the LGBTQ+ community.
"So much of my life I found it very difficult to see a future," Elliot recalled.
"This would have been impossible before – to have the space in my mind to be creative to this degree to be comfortable enough to even sit with myself to complete a task like writing a book."
Lorraine went on to tell her guest: "That's the thing, you're living a happy life - why would anybody object to that?"
"I don't know why," Elliot replied.
"I want everyone to expand and be able to be their authentic self, whatever that means for them. I hope times change."
Wrapping up their chat, Lorraine agreed as she mused: "That's all we can hope for and it is nudging along. And your book will help that!"
