Nintendo has announced a Nintendo Direct presentation set to take place this week, and will heavily feature Pikmin 4 and other 2023 titles.

After skipping it's usual mid-June slot and following a litany of rumours from every insider under the sun, Nintendo has officially announced a Nintendo Direct presentation will take place on Wednesday, June 21. The event is set to shine a light on Pikmin 4 ahead of that games launch next month, and will primarily focus on 2023 Nintendo Switch releases according to Nintendo's announcement on Twitter.

This marks the first Nintendo Direct since the event in Feburary and the first after the launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which – suffice to say – went down a treat with gamers. Now it's time to see what the rest of the year holds for Nintendo, since after Pikmin 4, there are no major Nintendo titles announced for 2023, so it's the right time for Nintendo to show off what's next for Nintendo Switch owners.

Nintendo Direct June 2023 start time and how to watch

The Nintendo Direct June 2023 presentation will begin at 3pm BST / 10am EDT / 7am PDT on Wednesday, June 21. The event is set to run for 40 minutes according to Nintendo, and we can expect a big chunk of that 40 minutes to be focused on Pikmin 4.

The event will be streamed on Nintendo's YouTube and Twitch channels, both streams are usually one to one so don't worry about picking the wrong one and being behind, just choose whatever platform suits you.

What to expect from Nintendo Direct June 2023

As always, Nintendo don't typically give away too much ahead of a Nintendo Direct. However, one game thaty has been confirmed to show up at the event is Pikmin 4 which launches almost exactly a month from the stream and is Nintendo's next big release (I mean there's Everybody 1 2 Switch, but considering Nintendo announced that one via a Tweet less than a month ago I wouldn't expect much from it here).

However, Twitter leaker @Pyoro_ND who has had an excellent track record as of late has posted two bits of info about the upcoming direct. First off, a new 2D Super Mario Bros. game, this makes sense considering the huge success of the Super Mario Bros. Movie, and there hasn't been a new 2D Mario in 11 years, now feels like the time. A collective sigh of relief was made later on when Pyoro posted that the new Super Mario Bros. game won't be a part of the New Super Mario Bros. series.

The other bit of info Pyoro posted was that a remake of a SNES classic is also set to show up, sending speculation into a frenzy. However, Pyoro later posted a gif of a fat Yoshi, which was originally supposed to appear in Square Enix's 1996 title Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, leading to speculation that it will be the SNES remake in question (which considering the game is yet to appear on Nintendo Switch Online would make sense). Pyoro also posted a gif of Detective Pikachu, so perhaps Detective Pikachu 2 could show up too, we'll know for sure later this week.

One thing you shouldn't expect however is a Nintendo Switch 2 announcement, as Nintendo doesn't typically unveil new hardware in Nintendo Directs (as seen with the Nintendo Switch, as well as the Lite and OLED models). Never say never though.
