Disturbing footage of a deformed pigeon with a swollen neck and giant feet has shocked the online community.

The bird, believed to be an English Pouter pigeon, can be seen waddling unsteadily across a table as it puffs its chest out in an unusual manner.

It is not clear where the video was taken, but the rare breed of pigeon can be spotted across Europe and the UK.

Their unsettling appearance is supposedly a result of many years of selective breeding.

More than 23 millon people have viewed the video, with most commenting on how odd the creature looks.

"That is the most f***ed up animal I have ever seen," one Reddit user exclaimed.

Another simply added: "This is extremely disturbing."

Others felt sorry for the bird.

"This is not nature's work, this poor thing is waddling around not seeing its own feet," one wrote.

The footage was shared last month on Twitter, with the user saying that pigeons come "in all shapes and sizes".

"Like different types of domestic dogs, domesticated pigeons come in all shapes and sizes like this pouter pigeon," they wrote, as reported by The Daily Star.

At first glance, the pigeon, in grey and white shade, looks like the common type of bird that can be seen on the streets.

But it stands a few inches taller, with elongated legs and white feathers covering the feet.

When the bird sheepishly walks its way closer to the camera, the very large crop becomes visible before the pigeon turns away to face towards the yard.

The bird's almost other-worldly appearance caused one person to ask: "what in the Pokémon is that?"

Another added: You are telling me that chickgeon can fly?"

"This looks like some s*** the high evolutionary was making," a second said and a third said: "If I were five years old and you told me to draw a picture of a bird, this is what it would look like."

Another person said that they did not realise that the bird was actually a "special breed" and was supposed to look like that.

"The bird is very unique," they wrote.
