Beloved American record producer Quincy Jones has been rushed to hospital with a serious illness.

The 90-year-old Chicago-born star suffered a medical emergency and was briskly rushed to the hospital due to its severity, according to reports.

American news outlet TMZ has reported that one of Quincy's representatives told them that the music mogul "had a bad reaction to some food he ate".

Being ultra-cautious, an ambulance was called and paramedics soon arrived at his Los Angeles home on Saturday afternoon.

Quincy was then taken to the hospital for a check-up before he was reportedly given the "all-clear by doctors and released from the hospital".

The outlet also report how they were told "Quincy never lost consciousness" and was in "great spirits".

Quincy has been in the public eye since 1951, with his career spanning more than 70 years.

He is known for working with artists like Michael Jackson and Frank Sinatra and has had 80 Grammy Award nominations as well as winning 28 of the coveted gongs. And in 1992 he was awarded the Grammy Legend Award.

Quincy's first big music producing break was when he worked on pop records for Lesley Gore in the 60s, with him producing the hit It's My Party.

When working with Frank Sinatra, Quincy was an arranger and conductor for several collaborations with Frank and Count Basie.

But his best-known work of recent years comes in the form of the work he did with Michael Jackson, with Quincy known for producing three of his albums.

Quincy worked on Off the Wall in 1979, Thriller in 1982, and Bad in 1987. He also produced We Are The World in 1985, a charity song that raised funds for victims of famine in Ethiopia.

The music mogul has seemingly had good health throughout his life but did have one scare a number of decades ago.

In 1974 Quincy developed a brain aneurysm, which then saw him cut back on his work to spend more time with his loved ones.

Reports say that his family thought his life was coming to an end, with them planning his memorial. Quincy even attended his own service.

He recalled the health scare in 2018 in a Facebook post, with him writing: "Back in 1974, I suffered an aneurysm (a weakness in the main artery to the brain that caused it to pop) & it felt like a shotgun was fired inside of my head.

"While operating for 7.5 hours, my doctors discovered a second aneurysm that was ready to blow, so they had to schedule a second operation.

"During this time, it didn't look too promising, so my friends planned a memorial service for me at The Shrine in LA, & I basically attended my own funeral.

"Man, everyone was there...Sidney Poitier, Sarah Vaughan, you name it. It was special to see so many people there to celebrate what would've been my 41 years of life, but to now be in London getting ready for my 85th birthday celebration concert tomorrow at The O2 is absolutely unbelievable."
