Although the reason(s) for such hasn't been revealed, the FSA provides an overview of what inspections include on its website. Is says that three elements are typically checked.

This includes "how hygienically the food is handled," such as how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored. The "physical condition" of the business is also reviewed, including cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation, pest control and other facilities.

The third element is how the site manages ways of keeping food safe, "looking at processes, training and systems to ensure good hygiene is maintained." According to the FSA, the inspecting officer "can then assess the level of confidence in standards being maintained in the future."

A spokesperson for Gino D'Acampo Hotels and Leisure told the Liverpool Echo that they are "extremely disappointed" with the rating and have taken "immediate action" over it.
