BBC Breakfast viewers were left fuming as they called out an "overload" of the same news story.

The morning news programme returned for its Sunday installment with Roger Johnson and Sarah Campbell as hosts.

However it wasn't long before the much-loved presenters were facing criticism from fans over the content of the show.

A large proportion of the three hour programme was taken up with coverage of Manchester City's historic win on Monday night.

The football team won the Champion's League win against Inter Milan yesterday, with a 1-0 victory in Istanbul, Turkey.

It means the club now hold the treble - winning the Premier League, FA Cup and Campion's League all in the same season.

Despite their monumental success, many BBC Breakfast fans slammed the "overload of football".

One said: "Football, Royal tittle tattle and “ novelty” items will always take precedent on #bbcbreakfast."

"BBC Breakfast and #skynews has their main story as the football," added another.

"F**k the football there is a more important story thats going on in the country this morning," someone else demanded.

A fourth added: "Starting to get cheesed off with the ‘dross’ that is becoming BBC Breakfast."

"So the main news is that a football team won a game. Nothing else happening in the world then," wrote one viewer.

Even presneters Roger and Sarah seemed to notice the amount of football chat.

Sarah asked her co-star: ""Is there only one sports story in town at the moment Roger?"

He then replied: "Seems like it!

Correspondent John Watson, who was in Turkey, then carried on the football report in a nine-minute segment.

Whilst on Saturday's show viewers were left cringing as a football fan almost made an embarrassing cameo.

In a live link from Istanbul, sports reporter John Watson spoke to camera about the excitement building up in the Turkish city ahead of the Champions League final between Manchester City and Inter Milan.

John explained that there were more British fans flying in ahead of tonight’s kick-off, many of them paying huge sums of money in the hope of seeing their beloved team make history with another trophy win this season.

He said: “So many fans are arriving with emotional stories, arriving with family, friends, loved ones…”

But he wasn’t prepared for one fan who was looking for directions.

To the right of the screen appeared a white-haired man who began to ask a question as he tapped his watch - before realising his mistake and quickly stepping away, waving a discrete apology.

The unexpected encounter didn’t phase John, and he continued his link but people at home definitely noticed the lost man’s cameo.
