A woman left people divided after admitting she has banned her boyfriend from getting two dogs - even though she already owns a cat.

Posting on Reddit, the anonymous woman admitted that she is worried that they will disrupt her peaceful home and thinks it might be too many pets.

But people were split - with some pointing out that she couldn't curtail his dreams of pet ownership while she owns a cat.

But she has flatly vetoed his plan as in her eyes, the dogs plus her cat would be too many pets in one home and she thinks the mess that would be made would be "gross."

In the post, the woman, who remained anonymous, explained: "My boyfriend and I plan on moving in soon. I'm a cat lover and he's a dog lover. I want one cat and of course he'll have his dog.

"Now he's saying he wants two dogs- one big and one small at least. But then that means three pets in the house. It's gross to me. I dislike pet hair and I'm a clean person, which makes it more irritable for me."

She added that dogs require a lot of maintenance while cats can look after themselves.

"Dogs are too hyper, and I don't want all the extra energy inside my home where I crave peace," she explained.

"They'll run around the house, stand by your legs for food when you're eating, jump on bed, and smell like wet dogs when they go outside. It's his dream to have two dogs that play together.

"I'm really against it. Three pets equals more responsibility, especially if we have kids, that would mean even more responsibility."

In response, many sided with the boyfriend and stated that, while it is fine for her to prefer cats, she has made too many assumptions about owning dogs.

One person wrote: "Your preference is ok but then he's also not the person for you if you can't even agree on a simple thing as pets and you don't even like dogs."

While another stated: "Don't expect him to be any less set on his pet dreams than you are on yours. And don't move in together until you're very sure you both agree on future pet plans."
